Highlights

Dan Buettner, 40, has made a career exploring the world's extremes to promote understanding and education. For last fall's expedition, AsiaQuest, Dan opened a new chapter in modern-day exploration and education. Using cutting-edge satellite communications and the Internet, he linked 40,000 classrooms and on-line adventurers to some of the world's top scientists to answer the question, "Did Marco Polo really go to China?" The Washington Post ran a six-week series on AsiaQuest and called Dan's Quests, "the most successful experiment in interactive education to date."

In 1992-93, Dan led Africatrek, a 12,107 mile journey across the length and width of Africa. As a team of two black and white cyclists, their objective was to highlight the power of racial cooperation and setting goals. In conjunction with the expedition, Dan initiated a program that sent 1000 bicycles to Africa and an education program that reached over one million students. The television program he produced on the expedition won a 1995 Emmy Award for cultural documentaries.

Currently Dan is the Vice President of Classroom Connect's Adventure Learning Division. He graduated cum laude from the University of St. Thomas in 1983.
