Highlights

Writing children's nonfiction is a joyful flend for me of all my favorite things -- mothering, discovering, teaching, writing, researching, learning and sharing. A former teacher, I also write student or teacher editions for textbook publishers that include ScottForesman, MacMillan-McGraw Hill, Metro Phonics, Houghton Mifflin, and SRA. Lesson plans for PBS's Newton's Apple, program booklets for Sesame Street Live, decodable stories for The Wright Group, and a student magazine to teach Agriculture in the Classroom have been other fun projects. Each spring, writing wildlife migration reports on the Internet for the 5,000 schools using Journey North keeps me busy -- and excited about the miracles taking place in the natural world. I have a wonderful daughter and three special pets.

Presentations

My school visits are single classroom or larger, multi-class presentations in which I share excerpts from my books and tales of my life as an author. I often serve as author-in-residence, conducting workshops and creating books with oung writers over a week's time. I also teach lessons based on topics I've written about, and show slides of my reasearch and pleasure trips to Antarctica and New Zealand. I typically work with teachers to customize presentations to their students' interests or needs. I welcome the question-and-answer sessions with children, and I LOVE hearing or "coaching" children's works-in-progress.
