Highlights

As an art historian (Ph.D, University of Minnesota) my interests are in art and popular culture. The books listed above all discuss artists who have worked in Minnesota and contributed to our cultural heritage. I have written articles on Minnesota postcards, Minnesota postage stamps, Minnesota advertising brand icons, graffiti, and roadside memorials. A current research interest is the art of a children's book illustrator whose work is well represented in the University of Minnesota's Kerlan Collection. One literary topic is an essay I wrote on "Minnesota's Community of the Book." It appeared in John T. Flanagan's Minnesota's Literary Visitors which won a Special Minnesota Book Award in 1994. The essay is now part of the Minnesota Center for the Book/Metronet site on thw World Wide Web. Several of my books were noted in Artsbibliographies Modern and in Avon Books' Whole Pop Catalog (1994).

Presentations

Over the last fifteen years I have given guided bus tours and slide lectures to audiences from elementary school children to teachers and Elderhostel adults on my research topics; comtempoary murals and sculpture, breweriana, ledger book painting, painted vehicles, African art and textiles, American Indian art, outdoor sculpture, children's book illustration. Presentations include slides and artifacts.
