Highlights

In 1981 I moved from the US to Sweden, where I received my formal education in art history, sculpture and theatrical clowning. Since then I have worked as a puppet & mask-maker and clown in Europe and the US. I have written and illustrated award winning picture books and created one-of-a-kind sculptural Artist's Books. My words and images continusously flow onto flat and three dimensional surfaces to inform, inspire and delight.

Awards

Sofia and the Heartmender. Mid America Publishers. Best Children's Book, 1994. Midwest Independent Publishers Association. Midwest Book Achievement Award, 1994. (Children's Book) Skipping Stones Magazine. Honor Award, 1994. (For Exceptional Multicultural and Ecological Awareness) Publishers Marketing Association. The Benjamin Franklin Award, 1994. Finalist in Children's Picture Book category.

Presentations

I have been teaching Visual & Literary & Theatrical Arts as an Artist in Residence in Schools, Libraries and Community Centers since 1985. My presentations and classes take several forms, from a one hour lecture to a participatory workshop, or an animated puppet-reading of Sofia and the Heartmender. My residencies include book arts, illustration, writing, mask-making and puppetry. An interdisciplinary artist I combine writing with book-making, storytellig wih puppetry, mask-making with theater improvisation, etc. At the core of all my work lays my strong belief in the nurturing power of creativity. "I love to see kids creating from their soul. Hope to have you back again." Jeff DeVaney, Principal, Lincoln Elementary, Brainerd. "You are very fun and lively. Keep it up. Everyone likes a person who gives zest to life." Courtney Hosp, Eighth Grade Student, Ellis Middle School, Austin
