Books The Chance Series:
Highlights "Semi-retired" after thirty-five years in the classroom, Ron has pooled his love of the outdoors, a zeal for the written word, and his understanding of students into an adventure series targeted toward adolescents. Set in Minnesota's famed BWCWA, the "Travis and Seth" Trilogy was written with a specific objective—the use of universally taught writing skills to create stories of interest for an adolescent audience—including the reluctant readers. |

Awards In 2003 One Last Chance was the recipient of a Minnesota Intellectual Property Lawyers Assn. award for contribution to the intellectual community of Minnesota. |

Presentations "Stirring Up a Story" (grades four through eight, group size 25 - 200) Once the tent is pitched, and the campfire's glowing, Ron draws parallels between writing fiction and the folk tale, Stone Soup. With the aid of props and overheads to help hold interest, he has students fill his 'story pot.' These contributions include most of the commonly taught language skills—plot (conflict and resolution), protagonist, setting, dialogue, alliteration, adjectives, adverbs, similes, etc. The lesson being—that an entertaining narrative—much like tasty soup—begins with a few basic staples. But bringing a story to fruition means far more than just adding a dash of salt and pepper. And that even with superb ingredients, a good stew is the result of having been stirred lovingly over a low flame for a long time. Or put another way—oodles of editing. "A Wannabe Writer's Education into the World of Publishing" This program is primarily for libraries, civic groups or book clubs. Interspersed with passages from the Chance Series, Ron shares his learning journey from rough draft to finished product—and the rejection bumps in-between. Included are several paths writers may choose to travel on their way to being published. |
Fees "Stirring up a Story" base fee -- a one hour program plus Q&A -- $150. An additional $25 for each same day presentation. A modest travel fee charged if out of the author's home area. The "Wannabe Writer's" presentation fee is negotiable, depending on the amount of time and travel involved. |
