Adventurer traveler with extensive experience. Quite knowledgeable on Russia and Central Asia. Over twenty trips into Russia, beginning in the days of the Soviet Union. Veteran of two month-long trips across China, including Tibet. Former Board member, Asia Society Houston. Considerable breadth and depth of knowledge of American history with particular scholarship on the Civil War and Reconstruction. Graduate degree from Stanford University. Former energy executive now working in north Minneapolis on racial reconciliation. Job involves being a motivational speaker (several times a week) helping economically-disadvantaged youth, young adults and adults to find a realistic vision for their life and a detailed plan to realize that vision. Organized a visit to Houston for the Dalai Lama and spent three days with him. Had dinner with Harry Wu, famous Chinese human rights activist. Discussed religion and philosophy for several hours with a high-ranking abbot in one of Tibet\'s most revered monasteries. Met Mikail Gorbachev in Moscow. Spent two days escorting Sergei Khrushchev (Nikita’s son). Met and photographed Lech Walesa. Had dinner with two different Russian KGB generals and visited Russian military bases. Entered Lefortovo, infamous KGB prison, to conduct research in the Russian Military Archives housed within. Helicoptered above the Arctic Circle in Siberia on numerous occasions. Special guest of the Metropolitan at Russia’s most sacred monastery of Sergei Pasad for Orthodox Easter Vigil services. Published photographer with extensive portfolio of images from US, Europe and Asia.
