1969-2006 – Mr. Koblas has taught writers\\\' workshops & formed writing groups to teach young people history and creative writing at no charge.

Concerned over what young people read, Koblas created the Doc & Tweed History/Mystery Series for young adults 8-16. The purpose of the Doc and Tweed adventure is to provide young people with enjoyment by means of escapism while learning to identify people, places, and events in our history. By keeping the action fast-paced and the answer to the riddle just beyond one\\\'s fingertips, the reader absorbs history without really being aware of it. Each Doc and Tweed story is designed to both please and educate readers and to enable them to use problem-solving and critical thinking skills, analyze clues, and explore topics and events from our past.

Awards

Several "Best Book of the Year" awards for books in the Western genre from James-Younger Gang

Presentations

Doc & Tweed, the series of books John is writing, focuses upon two fictional fourteen year old heroes with a penchant for adventure and history. In a sense, they are a modern day version of the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew, but with a redeeming kicker: history and science thrown in for good measure. History really is fun and never boring if presented correctly, and many young writer "wannabes" will benefit from John's writing and lecturing experience. You won't find metal monster robots choking giant grasshoppers in John's presentation but you will meet a host of real as well as fictional characters from our past and present. During the presentation, students are asked to participate by assuming roles of some of these characters while the author uses props, pictures, and an occasional Doc and Tweed song or poem to familiarize each adolescent with famous figures from yesterday. Students can accept a challenge by taking the quick Doc and Tweed Quiz: Potpourri and also discuss the upcoming Doc & Tweed movie shorts and explain why she or he deserves a role in the series.
