Presentations

Ryan typically does five or six presentations per school visit, per day. Blended with humor, personal accounts and fascinating information, each presentation lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes and includes a reading, a focused discussion and a question-and-answer session. Ryan brings plenty of inventory with him, so before he leaves the school, he signs book(s) for every student who places an order.

Ryan's presentations to kindergarten and first grade focus on what it's like to be an author, how he gets his ideas and how illustrations are created.

His second- and third-grade presentations offer in-depth discussions on how he began writing books, as well as the writing process he follows when creating a book.

His fourth- and fifth-grade presentations delve deeper into his writing process, highlighted by a sample brainstorming activity with the students.

Beginning March 2009: Ryan will be available to present to sixth and seventh graders, discussing the challenges to writing a good story and tips for telling a good tale. He demonstrates how to structure a story from beginning to end.
